My father passed away 2 hours after I visited him on Thursday.
On Friday, my wife called me with a real emergency. She had been bitten while trying to break up a fight between two of our dogs. The injury was quite bad, and nobody was around to take her to the hospital. She drove one-handed with a towel wrapped around her wrist to catch the blood. All of the bones in her wrist are dislocated.
By the way, she went to Advocate Trinity Hospital on the South Side of Chicago. They did not give her anything for the pain. They did not set the bones even though responding quickly was important. I am not happy with Advocate Trinity Hospital right now.
Yesterday was my father’s visitation and funeral. His long lost brother showed up after disappearing for 35 years. My dad’s sister, who is probably the sweetest woman I know, was a little uncomfortable about it. She had some things she wanted to say and she didn’t speak up because she was thrown off-kilter by the experience.
TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD: Okay, so it’s not all doom and gloom. The United States Navy was able to send a small detail (adhering to social distancing, etc during these pandemic times) to present the flag at my father’s visitation.
Any other good news? Yes, actually, the visitation overall was flawless. Geisen Funeral Home in Crown Point, Indiana made it happen. Thanks to you all; this beautiful tribute to my father meant a lot to me!
My final note for the day – the latest development is that my wife’s wrist, which was bitten as mentioned above, is infected and she is on the operating table right now.
Enough chaos. I am signing out for the day! Tomorrow will be better, I promise.
