What happened to the good old days?

There were never any golden days really… at least not when it comes to the American presidential election.

Right now, at 9:52 pm on November 3rd, 2020, the polls have been closed for over 24 hours Nevada has only counted 74% of their votes. Big problem with the mail-in votes apparently. But the mail-in votes would have been counted already if it weren’t for a Trump-sponsored effort to sue the state of Nevada for beginning a count of mail-in ballots at a perfectly reasonable time after many other states had begun the process already. Why wasn’t this dismissed on the grounds that it is just stupid, stupid bullshit?

Anyway, it seems like a bad dream because our election process is so badly broken. Does our vote even count?

Well, I mean look at it. Five presidential elections of our nation’s history were complete bullshit. That’s 5 out of 58ish elections. Something in the ballpark of 9% of our elections have failed. What I mean by that is that the popular vote did not determine the winner of the election.

get rid of the electoral college

Please for the love of God. Aren’t we all getting tired of this circus with our elections?

Look… let’s be real here. Historical elections:

failed elections – Years 1876 and 1888 (12 years apart)

FaILED ELECTIONS – Years 2000 and 2016 (16 years apart)

Most of you are probably old enough to remember 2000, which was totally banana pants. You definitely remember 2016, which was a frustrating, upsetting, and tragic miscarriage of democracy.

Other years did not have this sort of malfunction. As a nation, we might be at the end of our collective period of racist, idiotic madness and maybe not. Who knows? Open your eyes and take a look outside and let me know if you think the wave of racist insanity is anywhere near over. Seriously, let me know.

I prefer not to take a chance. I’d like to begin a popular vote. That’s what democracy looks like to me.

Does anyone else out there care to share their opinion on this? And maybe convince us that this is an ok situation we should all accept?
