You Know You are a Linux SysAdmin when…

When you measure time based on what is the latest kernel version, or the kernel version used in your distro of choice, you might be most definitely are a Linux geek.

If you use the StarDate to measure time, that makes you a serious nerd. Be proud, but also be cautious about surprisingly getting beamed up to somewhere.

You might be interested in trying out another way to measure time:

  1. Year. My personal favorite. Commonly expressed in two different ways:
    • BC vs AD (In Christian mythology, “Before God Was Born” vs. “After”)
    • BCE vs CE (generally accepted expressions – “Before the Common Era” vs. “Common Era”)
  2. Condition
    • Before the War vs After the War (any war, just refer to it as “The War”)
    • Pre-COVID vs. Post-COVID
    • In the “Early Days” of _____ (fill in the blank)
    • Back when I was ____ (e.g. little, young, strong, still on my training wheels)
  3. Count
    • How many times I’ve slept between two events. Not great for insomniacs.
    • How many times I’ve gone to the bathroom between two events. Small bladder = high accuracy.
    • How many relationships I’ve gone through between two events. This one actually works for some people.
    • How many toothbrushes I’ve replaced between two events. Should be ~ 3 months.
    • How much Fireball I’ve consumed between two events. For me about one liter per week.
    • How many countries/states/cities I’ve visited between two events. Great for travelers!
  4. Other odd units of time. See this for reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_humorous_units_of_measurement#Time
