According to NBC News, Trump called Ukraine President Zelenskyy a dictator in a social media post: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/zelenskyy-trump-putin-war-ukraine-russia-started-rcna192765
I don’t see this as a mere rude, off the cuff comment. This is an attack on congressionally supported assistance to a foreign country which is being invaded. When will the people of America stop accepting this kind of daily misbehavior? I keep thinking there will be a breaking point and it should have happened already.
When will the people of the US, the Republican congress or the Supreme Court muster enough courage to push back against the relentless disinformation campaign, the undermining of the US Constitution with unlawful executive orders, the undermining of Congress and Federal courts?
In my opinion the Supreme Court has mostly stayed in its lane. Its Justices know their role and their decisions have been in line with the intention of our country’s Founding Fathers. However, lately they have been weak in defending Federal Judges. This is the responsibiity of the Supreme Court and their failure to take action against oversteps of the exective branch. My advice to the Supreme Court, which is essentially comments from the peanut gallery, is to turn things around before your unacceptable job performance becomes a persistent issue.
Congress has been weak and ineffectual for most of my adult life. It’s disappointing but nothing new.
Same goes for the American people. We have never been great at analysis or critical thinking. So, again, a disappointment but not a shock as far as I am concerned.
It seems like the entire country has given up on defending some of the core principles behind the founding of the United States:
- Equality. All individuals have the same claim to natural rights and equal treatment under the law.
- Justice. Ensuring a political order that protects the rights of all individuals equally.
- Separation of powers. Prevent any one branch from becoming too powerful
- Checks and Balances. Each branch (executive, legislative, and judicial) has the ability to limit the abuse of powers by any other branch.
